The ability to communicate more effectively on sexual health issues is just one of the benefits parents of Sixth Class children will get from a special webinar this week.
‘Stepping up to Sexual Health’ will be staged for parents in the Mayo, Roscommon and Galway region on Wednesday night, July 1st, at 8o’c.
It is being organised by Planet Youth, a primary prevention initiative that aims to enhance young people’s health and wellbeing and assist them in achieving their full potential. Planet Youth has been operating in Mayo, Roscommon and Galway since 2018.
The webinar, on Facebook live, will be delivered by Lorraine O’Connell, WISER (West of Ireland Sex Education Resource) Education Coordinator, Sexual Health West.
“This webinar will provide information and support regarding positive sexual health. It aims to help you gain the confidence to communicate effectively with your children around issues that can be tricky to discuss,” said Lorraine.
“We will also cover topics such as pornography, sexting and body image.”
There is no charge for the webinar, and parents can email questions beforehand to communications@planetyouth.ie.
Pre-registration is not necessary – parents simply have to log onto Facebook.com/PlanetYouthIreland shortly before 8o’c on Wednesday.
“The webinar seeks to assist parents as they support their children this summer and as they make the transition to post-primary school. This year’s Sixth Class has missed out on a number of key events due to COVID-19 and the webinar will help parents to cover some of the education the children usually receive in SPHE or RSE around the area of sexuality,” said Emmet Major, Planet Youth.
